Taking steps towards reaching potentially habitable planets and detecting habitable planets are entirely different lines of research. One has to do with our understanding of our place in the universe and the other has to do with our understanding of how to manipulate the universe in ways we want.

Since the discovery of techniques that allow for the detection of exo-planets we’ve been finding more and more potentially habitable worlds, as these techniques are refined and built upon we will learn more.

However, just because we are seeing breakthroughs in that field in no way impacts our progress in the other field. Even the most optimistic projections for a high speed probe would reach 0.2c

As soon as we have a breakthrough in the transit capability, especially one that allows for Faster Than Light transport, then we’ll able to make a more thorough investigation of the more interesting detections. But there’s no rush.
